May 22, 2012 - New Hyatt Place Midtown South (as seen in Hotel Chatter)
The hotel is now taking reservations for November 26 and on. If you've never stayed
at a Hyatt Place before, here's what you can expect: spacious guest rooms with
divided living and sleeping areas, a king Hyatt Grand Bed (or two double beds),
42" flat-panel HDTVs, plenty of places to plug in your gadgets (including
hookups for the TV), a Cozy Corner sofa-sleeper (yes, in all rooms),
complimentary continental breakfast buffet and best of all, free WiFi.
Downstairs, there will be one of those new-fangled Grab n' Go restaurant, a bakery cafe, a "den" to hang out in and an "E Room", a business center in case you somehow forgot your laptop.
We found rates for $322 on opening night, which is a little higher than most Hyatt Places we've seen. Rates do drop slightly on the weekends and we imagine that they
could go even lower as the winter progresses. Just to compare, we found rates
at the Element Times Square, a similar hotel concept to Hyatt Place from Starwood, a few blocks further west for $305 with an advance purchase or $499 for a regular rate.

Still, you have to factor in the extras that Hyatt Place offers into the price--more space, a sleeper sofa, free breakfast and free WiFi. Most boutique hotels in NYC charge
that much just for the shoebox room. As always, we'll keep our fingers crossed
that rates come down a little more before opening.
